Hi
y’all! My name is Diego. What an adventure I have had in the last couple
of months. Whew! Seems like I was neglected, abandoned and left to fend
for myself until Yavapai County took me into their shelter. After a
while, I was referred to AZBHR, but because the foster homes were all
full, I had to stay in boarding for a while. That was OK, but I really
wanted to go to a home. Finally, Ms. Robin found a place for me to live
while I got healthy, put some weight on, got lumps removed and
“tutored”.
Everything was going great and I even got to go to the Howl-oween event.
What a blast I had – meeting new people and dogs! Then I went to the
v-e-t. She was a nice lady but she took 7 lumps off me, neutered me,
then amputated my tail. She told my foster mom that the ugly growth on
my tail was too involved with the tail structure and looked pretty
dangerous, so it’s gone. But, I got to wear cool t-shirts while I healed
and my foster sisters were soooooo jealous! And, I have all my shots, my
micro-chip, and most important, a clean bill of health! I have gotten my
stitches out and am growing my hair back and look like a real dog again,
even without most of my tail.
I
really want a nice forever home. I am about 7 years old and as nice as
can be. I have put on about 15 pounds, am pretty close to my ideal
weight and am a pretty good-sized boy. I have a lot of play in me, but
don’t chew or even bark much. I share food and water well. I mind really
well and ask to go outside when I need to, and am pretty good on the
leash. I am a little scared of the garage, though. I get along great
with my basset foster sisters and the five fluffy cat-things that also
live here. I love the couch and chair and would love the bed but my
foster folks won’t let me sleep up there. They expect me to sleep in my
own bed, darn it. Don’t tell, but when they are not home, I sleep in the
bed with the cats (shhhh).
I am a very affectionate fellow and very happy. I would really love to
have a home where I could be your very-best-ever friend and go for walks
and car rides and maybe romp in the backyard and snooze on the couch
with you.
