John Wayne
Hello Friends! My name is John Wayne and boy have I had a crazy life. I
came to Arizona all the way from Arkansas because the nice
people
at AZBHR were the only people that would risk taking me in. It took 10
different drivers and a whole lot of time, but I finally got to Arizona
only to wind up at the vet. See, I have heartworms. I have no idea what
they are, but apparently they live inside me and the treatment is why I
am tired and have to visit the vet all the time. The people back home
said I was given up because I was aggressive, but no one could explain
to the AZBHR folks exactly what that meant. AZBHR decided to take me in,
fix me up, and learn more about me so that I could find a more suitable
home. I am adjusting to my new foster home and foster brother. I really
can't wait to get out and run around, but the vet says I have to take it
easy for a while to allow my heartworm treatment time to work. |
It will take a few months to cure me, then they are going to "fix" me. I'm not sure what that means, but knowing AZBHR it's probably for my own good. My foster mommy is going to work on my manners and potty training while I receive treatment for these worms. Hopefully by the time I'm ready for adoption, I will be the perfect little 1 1/2 year old basset boy! Stay tuned to the website for updates on my progress. |
Update
04/07/2008: The
wait is over friends. I'm ready for adoption! I was fixed earlier this week
and the vet said I am perfectly healthy! No more evil heartworms - they are
all gone. And guess what - I am potty trained too. I've even slept outside
my crate the past few nights with no accidents. My foster mommy (She calls
me Dubby) figured out that when I cry in the morning that means I want to go
out. She lets me out and feeds me breakfast and I'm a happy little dog all
day long. Since my heartworm treatments are over I've been able to go to the
dog park and play with the other dogs - I really like interacting with other
dogs and I have to admit I am one of the cutest dogs at the park. My foster
mommy says I'd be the perfect pup for someone who has limited space because
I love to entertain myself, play with my toys and just lay around and have
my belly rubbed. I'd
be
great with kids, although probably ones that are big enough to play with me
and not mind my stealing their toys and jumping in their laps. I get along
pretty well with my foster brother except when he comes near my food bowl. I
like my food bowl in my crate where I can hoard it all to myself. I do share
my toys, my dog bed, and my foster mommy's sofa. I would be fine by myself
too since I love to get all the attention from my foster family. Since I'm
just a pup (I'll be 2 in June!) if you adopt me and give me my heart worm
pills every month, I'll probably be around a long time to love you! | |
