Shortcake

My name is Shortcake, I'm 8 years old and I'm looking for my new home. I came into rescue from the humane society where I was scheduled to be put to sleep after my family left me there when I did not get along with their new puppy. I was so devastated that the evaluator labeled me as shut down and not adoptable. Luckily, the rescue stepped in and saved me. After two months my foster mom knows that my former family treated me like a princess and when they left me I was scared but now I'm cute, bossy, lovable, sweet, spoiled and stubborn. I am a perfect basset hound. As you have guessed I like to be in charge, but I'm learning that it's the human that actually leads a pack. I get along with cats and smaller non-alpha dogs. I even get along with some bigger dogs in my foster home but I would prefer to be the biggest dog in the house.

So what do I want in a new home? I must be allowed on the couch! I cannot bend on this demand. I simply do not sleep on the floor like a common dog. I prefer the end of the couch where I can lay against the arm and snuggle down for a good sleep. The only other option is for me to crawl into your lap and fall asleep. (Yes, bassets are lap dogs!) My new parents should be willing to give me tummy rubs multiple times a day. Tummy rubs are my favorite thing! I really enjoy good food. So that is all I need; food, love, tummy rubs and a comfy couch. Oh, and a doggie door.

I seem to do fine around little kids but my ideal family would be one where someone is home with me most of the day. I would be perfect for someone who wants a companion to watch TV with or to read a book with. I am an excellent walking partner. I promise to protect your house (I sound like a doberman) and to be a loyal and faithful companion. All that I ask is that you promise me a forever home. I've already had at least three homes in my lifetime and I don't know if I can lose another family because it tears me apart.
