Meet Huckabee…a Huck a Huck of burning Basset love looking for this forever home after being dropped off at the shelter. Huckabee is believed to be about 5-6 years old and is very much got that Basset figure with the larger frame size and 60 pounds of pure love and drools at the sight of food. Huckabee is a very gentile and mild mannered Basset with big Basset paws just waiting for you to pet them.

"Howie" is a 5 year old Basset/Lab mix. He is neutered, chipped, and up to date on all his shots. When he was rescued he had pneumonia and a really nasty cough. He is feeling much better and more like himself now. Howard is a super great dog. He is great on a leash, and likes the dog park.

This beautiful girl is Noodles! She is a 11 month old bundle of love. Noodles knows many tricks, even the simple ones like "sit." She is potty trained and leashed trained as well. This little girl is very active and gives LOTS of love to everyone she meets, from other dogs to cats. Noodles is a long legged tri-color beauty that loves to play basset tag with her four legged foster sister. She is ALL puppy.

Burt is a handsome red and white 3 yr old male. He came to the rescue because his previous owner could not keep him due to being deployed by the military. Burt is a happy and loving boy and is house trained. Burt also enjoys snuggling next to you on the sofa. He also likes to think he is a lap dog even though he is a little big for that.

Hailey is a very cute 1 1/2 year old. She is very sweet and loving. She gets along with everyone. She gets along with all types of dogs and people. She is still very much a puppy and has a lot of energy and loves her toys and her bones. She would be a great dog for almost any type of family.

Fritz is only 4 months old and is the most charming, good-natured puppy you could ever want to meet. He gets along great with the other dogs, but would surely chase the cats if he could. Fritz is working on potty training and doing a pretty good job, he follows the big boys through the dog door and does what they do! Hi I'm Rusty. Let me tell you a little about myself. I'm 5 years old. My favorite thing in the whole world it sleeping on the couch and letting you pet me. I like walks, just not as much as the couch. However I have been told I have to walk it makes me feel better.

Max is a handsome 2 yr old basset/shepherd mix. He has the face of a German Shepherd but the body of a basset. He is a very sweet and loving boy who loves getting belly rubs and snuggling next to you. He likes to be left alone when he eats and not to have anyone near his bowl. He loves to play fetch but doesn’t always want to give the ball back immediately. He loves going on walks and car rides and he does well at the dog park.

Payson is a 18 month old Tri Basset with the sweetest temperament. He is very small only weighting 40lbs but big in love. He loves everybody and everything. Payson loves to play with his foster brothers and sister and would like to go to a home that as another dog.

Hi, my name is Bo. Foster mom says I am 5 years old, but remind her more of a 2 year old. I am one of the happiest basset hounds you are ever going to meet. I love to play ball, you see it is my thing and I can play ALL day. I will do best in an active home. I get along well with other dogs, but would prefer not to be picked on, like my current 4-legged siblings do and won’t fight back. I see cats as toys, so it would probably be better if I wasn’t tempted.

Hello, my name is Dilbert. I am a very handsome (as you can see) 10 month old boy. I came to AZBHR when I was at an Emergency Vet because I had eaten some rocks. My previous owners couldn’t afford to pay for the surgery so AZBHR came to my rescue. I had to have my tummy opened up and the rocks removed.

I like kids but they need to be a little older because of my puppy traits. I was an outdoor boy until AZBHR got me, so I will need training and lots of loving to become the indoor family member, I so deserve to be.

They were very sad, and so was I, but my foster mom welcomed me with open arms and lots of love. I am learning to love my new family back, and am adjusting well.

Meet Andy Devine. He's the namesake of a rotund actor who played sidekick Marshall Jingles on TV's "Wild Bill Hickok" show. The original Andy was born in Flagstaff and grew up in Kingman. What a perfect name for a portly gentle basset who grew up in Arizona too. You can call our boy Andy, or you can call him Jingles... just don't call him late for dinner!!

Crockett is a really handsome boy lovable boy. He has been to our vet and passed with flying colors. He loves to cuddle and will be very happy to sit with you on the couch or on the bed and love you.

I had my AZBHR makeover recently. I was a little scared when foster mom left me at the vet's, but I came out with shiny white teeth, and those tender lumps and ugly skin tags are gone.

I’m Diego, and I'm 2 yrs old. I am an excellent love-dog despite not being treated very nice. I like to lay on the bed, on the couch, oh, and the chair. I like to eat several times a day, puppy chow until I’m about 42 lbs. Then I can eat normal dog food. I am pretty passive so I would prefer if there are other dogs that they are nice and don’t beat me up.

We're pretty happy that Drake's former owner dumped him on the street for Animal Control to pick up! At about 8 years old, Drake had not been taken care of very well, and needed some medical attention. He spent 2 days with our wonderful Tucson vet and came out a new dog!! He had to have several teeth removed because they were so bad, and he feels much better without them (and it hasn't stopped him eating of course as he's a true basset!)

I am very loving to my people but sometimes I can be a little jealous when my foster mommy and daddy pet my foster brother and sister, but I am working on this issue. Val is a wonderful and playful puppy, almost 7 months. She is a lemon, which means she has a unique coloring for a Basset Hound. She is great with other dogs and does not exhibit any signs of food and/or toy aggression. She is wonderful with men and women, equally. She loves children. Her behavior, however, is unknown around cats.

My name is Louie. My foster Mom is calling me "Lil Louie" although I am far from little. I am a big 4 year old boy, weighing in at 90 pounds. I came to AZBHR after my previous owner moved and had to give me up. I am dog door trained and house broken. I have not had ANY accidents in my foster home. My foster Mom is pleasantly surprised.

Weighing in at 35 pounds, Gabby is a place-appropriate dynamo. In the house she is a reserved young lady but at her favorite doggie park, she displays moves and speed that would make a greyhound sit up and take note. Gabby is housetrained, gets along with other dogs and people...

Darcy was in a sorry state when she arrived at AZBHR. She was dirty, with lots of ticks between her toes, her toenails curled up into her pads, and she had a nasty mass on her back leg that was infected and draining. She received a full day of treatment at our vet's office in Tucson and was soon looking much improved. Her mass was removed and found to be benign, her toenails were clipped back, the ticks were removed and she got a Frontline treatment, and her teeth and ears were cleaned.

Cody is a handsome lemon and white 8 year old boy with lots of personality. He came to us with several problems - infected ears and teeth. After some time at our vet, he is now home and feeling much better. He is fully house trained and uses the doggie door all the time. He has not had one accident since coming to his foster home.

Dylan is a handsome fellow with the classic “sad eyes” of a Basset. But don’t let those eyes fool you. He has his playful moments, especially when greeting his foster family.. He greets all with a hoarse, joyful sound. But don’t worry while he does bark it is not much.

I came to Basset rescue very sick, the pound was going to put me to sleep and the nice people at the AZBHR came to my rescue.

Herman is about 5 years old, very active and friendly, he loves the company of other dogs and would really do better with a canine companion that being an only hound. Herman loves to go for a walk, or to the dog park.

She also comments on how soft my hair is and is always petting me. I have three foster dogs who I get along with fine but am so much more interested in people. Hi, my name is Bradley and I am a 10-month old tri-color “bundle of cuteness.” At least that’s what my foster Mom tells me every day. I came to AZBHR after being abandoned at an emergency animal hospital. I was a scared little guy! I had to have surgery for Cherry-Eye and wear one of those awful e-collars and get drops in my eyes twice a day.

Clayton and Claire are a bonded pair of 2-3 year old bassets who seem to have spent their whole lives together. They are not happy unless they can at least see each other, and prefer to be side-by-side. So far they are getting along great with their foster dogs and cats, and love the children.

Hello my name is Polly, my foster mom also calls me Miss Polly because I deserve a title since I'm such a good little girl. My foster mommy is impressed that I don't bark except when playing with my foster sister, I don't drool except when I'm done using the water bowl, I know how to sit, stay, and potty outside too!

General is an awesome 3 yr old basset boy that came into rescue in August with severe ear infections, malnourishment (23 lbs) and upper respiratory problems. After a month and a half of vet care he has finally been cleared of all health issues, doubled in weight and is ready to find his new forever home.  This boy is personality plus!

Hi all, AZBHR refers to me as Vienna. I'm a 4 1/2 yr old, red, 45lb little beauty. I came to AZBHR on Feb 2 because I have tick fever and my parents couldn't provide me with the medicine I needed. I had lost the use of my back legs and had to drag them along with me. It was painful so I didn't get along very well with a bunch of other dogs around.

Archibald here. Top of the mornin to ya. I am a tri-color gentleman at the royal age of 7. I am good with everyone even that thing that hisses at me all the time. Been trying to give it the cold shoulder and it seems to be working well. I keep my 3 year old fellow basset pal busy with a lot of play time. I know what you are thinking but let's be honest here, age is just a number right? After play time I enjoy a good cool down on the closest non-people bed.

Introducing Wrigley - Wrigley is a wonderful 7 year old basset who is looking for a family that will not desert him. Wrigley came into Rescue after he was abandoned in a parking lot at a local hiking trail. If it were not for the compassion of a couple hikers, things might have ended horribly. The hikers witnessed Wrigley being pushed out of the car and saw him run around the car trying to get back in, but the car drove away without him.

Summer is a 1 year old female who came to us having just had puppies. The pups were taken away from her at approximately 4 weeks since Summer was losing too much weight. She is extremely shy and does not make friends with men very well at all.. She gets close to ladies after a couple of days.

Mercedes is a gorgeous 9 yr old tri color female. She is about 43 lbs and is very sweet and loving. She loves to be near you and follow you around the house while you are doing housework. She is dog door trained. She is good with kids and other dogs. We aren't sure how she is with cats. She is looking for a family that will love her and spoil her the way she thinks she should be. She would be a great addition to any family.

This is Hammi. Hammi is 5 years old and just the sweetest thing. There is not a dominate bone in his big ole body and cuddling is what he is all about. He is very easy going and enjoys his people. He is completely house trained, with not even one accident. He does great with just about everyone, but finds cats to be very interesting, licks his chops when he sees one, so no cats for him.

Hi my name is Jimmy and I am one of the recent foster dogs of the Arizona Basset Hound Rescue. I was a stray dog in Yuma before the Rescue and hitched a ride to Phoenix where I reside with my foster mom and four-legged foster siblings. The vets estimate that I am about a year old and am still very much a puppy. I have been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
