Potter

Potter, affectionately know as Potsy, is a short, 60 pound, six year old male, lemon and white in color, soft and gentle in soul. He came to us from the E list after being turned into our local humane society by his owner who no longer had room for him.

At first I though my heart was safe as this little heart breakers going to be adopted fast because his disposition is perfect. He's quiet, obedient, very well mannered and is perfectly content being next to you...with or without a treat! Plus he's gorgeous.

During his first few nights with us we noticed that the slight cough he had upon arrival was getting worse and had our vet check him out. At first we thought everything was OK because his heart and lungs sounded normal and strong but to be on the safe side x-rays were done. Turns out that Potters a very sick little guy. The x-rays show that Potsy's heart is twice the size as a normal heart. Along with that he has pulmonary edema. Going onto the next x-ray we were shown that he has hip dysplasia on one side/severe arthritis in both back legs that will give him some trouble down the road.

His last x-ray showed some separation along the spine involving three discs. I asked the vet her opinion on where to go from here. I was told that Potsy could still have a few good years ahead of him with the assistance of medication. First we had to get the edema under control. For the next few weeks Potsy was given steroids, laseks and antibiotics. He has now completed his medication and seems to have responded to it well. The vet, at this point, wants us to keep him somewhat calm and watch him for a few more weeks to see how well he does on his own before starting meds for his heart and arthritic condition. So far so good. He has had a few episodes but responds well when comforted and given lost of kisses.

He is such a good boy. When adopted Potsy needs to go to a home understanding of his health and time frame and one that is on the calmer side. He likes to play and go for short walks, but is most at home sitting at your feet with his chin on your knee. He's up for antics with the others and is quite humorous to watch when he romps, He is a towel thief. He's never gotten obnoxious or destructive. He is doggie door trained completely with no accidents. He's just a sweetheart plain and simple.
