Mickey

Mickey came into the rescue very thin and limping on his left rear leg. He has disseminated valley fever. He tested 1:64 for valley fever and >1:3200 for tick fever. He is on fluconizol and doxycycline for the infections. His blood tests show his little body is fighting the infections. For all this, he is a very active and happy little doggie. He did come in with a bit of a cold but seems over that for the most part, just the occasional cough but the runny nose and sneezing are all gone. He is barking at Leo right now as they play with a big rope bone. He has a good appetite and should be putting weight back on now that he's on medications. |
| March 29 Update: Mickey is a real
sweetheart. He doesn't have an aggressive or dominant bone in his body.
He is dog and cat friendly. He is also very puppy like. He seems to have
two modes. He is either expending 100% of his energy playing or he is
sleeping. He definitely needs another playful dog as a companion. When
he isn't occupied he gets himself into trouble. He can't be left alone
in a house unsupervised or he will get into trouble. It's important to
keep things like magazines, remote controls, cell phones, etc. out of
his reach. He seems to think if he can get to it, it is his toy. He
would not do well in a crate. He gets very nervous when he is confined.
He still has the bad habit of "puppy nipping" and wouldn't do well in
house with a small

April 1 Update: The vet said that some dogs run high tick fever numbers for a period of time, but as long as exposure to ticks was no longer a problem he didn't need to be on any meds. Mickey's Valley Fever Titre is 1..32 and the VF is NOT disseminated. His Tic fever Titre is > 1..32. He gets retested for the valley fever in the beginning of May. |
